Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa
It is not everyday that one earns a “Special Citation of Recognition” especially from the United States of America. So when it happens, as it did for Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa on the 25th of February 2020, it is a cause for celebration. The Chair/CEO Nigerian Diaspora Commission, tweeted “honoured by the state of Delaware. Presentation here by the Lt. Governor of Delaware US…” on the afternoon of the 26th in appreciation.

She holds a place in the hearts of Nigerians of a certain generation as the effervescent, down to earth face of Newsline, one of the most impactful Human Angle programs NTA ever had. But that was many years ago and she has since moved on to other exploits. For instance, she went from journalism to politics where she held down her seat for 3 consecutive terms (12 years) as the Member Representing Ikorodu constituency, Lagos state, at the National Assembly in the House of Representatives. During this time she was made the House Committee Chair on Media and Publicity and later House Committee Chair on Diaspora Affairs. A strong member of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress party, Hon. Dabiri-Erewa, was named Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora when he became President in 2015. Her performance catapulted her to her current post as the Chair/CEO of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission.
The award which recognizes her “worthy and courageous leadership as the pioneer Chair of the Diaspora Affairs Commission” is said to be the State of Maryland House highest Award.
MochaBeauty congratulates Hon. Dabiri-Erewa and wishes her more laurels ahead.
