For some reason Rema’s performance at the NBA All-Star Weekend in Chicago, Illinois, US. on Sunday the 16th of February hasn’t quite generated the attention it ought considering the fact that this 20 year old only released his first album in 2019. Titled “Rema”, the debut EP reached number 1 on Apple Music Nigeria. He guest starred alongside American rapper, 2Chainz.
His meteoric rise to fame could be attributed to the excellent management currently being delivered by the label he is signed to, Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records. The music star whose style is somewhat reminiscent of that of another Nigerian music wonder, Wizkid, is also garnering fame for himself at the same young age Wizkid shot to stardom.
Rema, real name Divine Ikubor, a native of Edo state, rose to prominence with the release of the song “Iron Man”, which soon made its way to American President Barack Obama‘s 2019 summer playlist.Rema is said to have started singing and rapping in secondary school. He attained his primary and secondary school education in Edo State.
On the 19th of October 2019, Rema won the award for Next Rated category and was nominated for Viewer’s Choice at the 13th edition of The Headies, a Nigerian music award. He also received the SoundCity MVP for best new artist on the 12th of January 2020
The NBA (National Basketball Association) All–Star Weekend is a festival held every February in the USA during the basketball regular season. It comprises a range of basketball events, exhibitions, and performances and culminates in the NBA All–Star Game held on Sunday night.
This is a major win for our very own Rema and deserves all the accolades that could possibly be sent his way. MochaBeauty also applauds Jonzing World for a job well done.
