“An equal world is an enabled world” this is the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day. Also called the “Each for Equal” campaign, this year’s theme strives to establish the need for equality amongst the genders in hopes of creating a better world for all. It is drawn from the notion of collective individualism which suggests that individual actions contribute to certain outcomes for the whole. If individuals so choose, they can make a difference in how the world is shaped and the collective experience of all. It is meant to be a year-long action aimed at promoting and accelerating gender equality.
Marked every 8th of March, the United Nations started celebrating the day in 1975. It is however, not a day which receives the same amount of attention globally. Indeed it is totally ignored in some countries while in others it is a day for honoring womanhood.
